Ayo Edebiri is a Serious Contender
As season four of The Bear earned a significant number of positive reviews from critics and viewers, Ayo Edebiri is in a strong position for the award this year.
The talented actress, who plays chef Sydney Adamu, has received multiple awards recently, including Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2024 SAG Awards.
It wouldn’t be the first time she’s earned the respect of the Television Academy, as she won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2023.
However, she is up against some tough competition in the Lead Actress category, who might have tickled more funny bones this year.
Jean Smart Might Be Hard to Beat
There is no question that Ayo Edebiri has the acting skills to deliver a funny line, but she will need to beat scene-stealer Jean Smart for the award, which will be no easy feat.
She’s won the award three times for every season of Hacks, taking home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
Smart never fails to delight as the complex Las Vegas comic Deborah Vance, with many falling in love with her friendship with her head writer, Ava Daniels, played by Hannah Einbinder.
As the fourth season of Hacks earned much critical acclaim for its fourth season, BEO betting odds are showing Jean Smart is likely to win the accolade at the 2025 ceremony.
Quinta Brunson is a Potential Threat
Quinta Brunson is arguably one of the most talented women in comedy at the moment, as she is the creator and co-writer of Abbott Elementary, in addition to playing the lead role of second-grade teacher Janine Teagues.
While she has consistently earned nominations in the category since the ABC show premiered in 2021, Brunson missed out on the award.
The only exception was in 2023 when Hacks took a season hiatus, leading to the Abbott Elementary star accepting the award for the first time in her career.
It is proof of her respect among the Television Academy, and her character’s more emotional journey in recent seasons could help her land the accolade for a second time.
