Golden Raspberry Awards 2026: Will Love Hurts Win Worst Film?

Most filmmakers dream of accepting multiple awards throughout their careers, but the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Film is likely their worst nightmare.

Unfortunately for some directors, the gong might soon be coming their way due to poor reviews, disappointing box office sales, or significant backlash.

One film that might receive the accolade next year is Love Hurts, which failed to impress critics and moviegoers following its release.

Love Hurts Has the Potential to Win

Love Hurts has the potential to win Worst Film at the Golden Raspberry Awards 2026, as it received generally negative reviews following its release in February 2025.

Despite a talented cast, which includes Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, the film earned a shocking approval rating of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning 82% of its 174 reviews are negative.

The New York Post’s Johnny Oleksinski wrote, “Waves of excruciating pain arrive partly because of the blood-and-guts fights of director Jonathan Eusebio’s exhausting and unpleasant film.”

Kyle Smith from The Wall Street Journal also said, “Mr. Quan and his fellow recent Academy Award honoree Ms. DeBose have no chemistry together… Mr. Eusebio, meanwhile, has no feel for how to make dialogue work, how to set up a joke, how to keep the story moving smoothly or even how to coach his actors.”

Due to considerable negative reviews from top critics and audiences, it wouldn’t be a shock if Love Hurts receives a Worst Film nomination at least. Its saving grace might be that other films this year have proven more shocking or controversial.

Jafaican is the Frontrunner

Jafaican is an early frontrunner for the Razzie for Worst Film, as it received considerable backlash for perpetuating harmful stereotypes of Jamaicans and their culture.

The flick was branded “profoundly disrespectful,” as lead Peter Andre, who is of Greek Cypriot descent, wore fake dreadlocks and adopted a Jamaican accent to transform into con artist Gary Buckle.

What’s more, it led to Caribbean creatives writing an open letter to Jafaican’s director, which said, “We are collectively appealing to your conscious sense of community when we open with that definition. We feel there is no other way to make sense of how a Black filmmaker could write and direct something as xenophobic, tone-deaf, and culturally violent as Jafaican. We feel qualified to say this, having only seen the trailer — because even in its short form, it is absolutely clear that this project is rooted in mockery, not respect.”

Due to the significant backlash the film has received, it might be inevitable for Jafaican to receive a Worst Film nomination, and it could even take home the award.

Popeye’s Revenge is a Strong Contender

As mentioned, Love Hurts might face stiff competition in the category from other movies, such as Popeye’s Revenge.

While reviews are limited, Popeye’s Revenge hasn’t proven a hit with critics who’ve watched it.

For instance, Collider’s Jeff Ewing rated it 3 out of 10, and said it was a “duct-taped collection of ideas directly lifted from other horror films.”

Many have stated that the Popeye elements appeared to be an afterthought, and the film misses core features that make the character so iconic, such as eating spinach for fuel or one of his iconic catchphrases.

Also, Popeye’s Revenge was heavily criticized for its writing, directing, technical issues, and low budget production, which could result in it receiving the Worst Film award at the 2026 Golden Raspberry Awards.

If you believe Love Hurts will win Worst Film at the Golden Raspberry Awards 2026, you could win $1010 by betting $100 if it happens.
