Golden Raspberry Awards 2026: Will The Electric State Win Worst Film?

Golden Raspberry Awards 2026: Will The Electric State Win Worst Film?
The first Golden Raspberry Award ceremony was held in 1981 to highlight the lowest quality films of the year.
Affectionately known as the Razzies, the event is typically held the night before the Academy Awards to boost press attention.
Worst Film is the main award at the ceremony and shines a spotlight on the biggest cinematic failures of the past 12 months.
It is typically awarded to a critically panned movie and box office disappointment, which has a poor screenplay, substandard performances and direction, and failed to live up to expectations.
While many recent flicks are in the running, The Electric State could be a strong contender for the upcoming event.

The Electric State is a Strong Contender
The Electric State seemingly has all the ingredients to win Worst Film at the 2026 Golden Raspberry Awards.
After all, it received a significant number of negative reviews from top critics, with one calling the film a “waste of everyone’s time and energy.”
As the film has a long list of A-list actors on board, including Millie Bobbie Brown, Chris Pratt, and Stanley Tucci, it is likely to become a huge target for the award.
As it had a huge budget of $320 million but was widely panned and only attracted 25.5 million views internationally in its first three days on Netflix, it almost guaranteed a Worst Film nomination and could walk away with the award.
Jafaican Could Be Tough to Beat
While The Electric State failed to live up to expectations on Netflix, it is unlikely to have offended audiences quite like Jafaican.
The British crime comedy was criticized for its screenplay and performances, and many people expressed outrage, believing it reinforces negative and inaccurate stereotypes about Jamaicans and their culture.
What’s more, the flick received much backlash, as the lead, Peter Andre, who is of Greek Cypriot descent, donned a dreadlocks wig and used a dubbed Jamaican accent, reportedly recorded by a non-Jamaican voice actor.
As a result, it was slammed by Black British and Caribbean communities who believe it is culturally insensitive and features cultural appropriation.
With many believing it is full of outdated humor and fails to understand or respect Jamaican culture, it might be difficult to beat Jafaican if it receives a Worst Film nomination in 2026.
Another Film Might Earn It
Of course, 2025 isn’t over yet, and another film could establish itself as a frontrunner for the award.
Popeye’s Revenge is already a strong contender, as it has been criticized for its poor direction, screenplay, and performances since its release.
Also, many believe it has ignored the source material, as the only resemblance the lead character has to the cartoon character Popeye is his muscular forearms.
Bambi: The Reckoning, from the Twisted Childhood Universe (TCU), is in the running, too, due to its low quality, absurd plot, and poor visual effects.
As the TCU’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey won the award (and many more at the event) in 2023, it is likely to grab the attention of voters this year and could be a major winner at the ceremony, picking up gongs for Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, Worst Remake/Rip Off/Sequel, and more.
