Marcus Rashford is one of the most recognisable football players in Europe, and the England international is a hugely talented striker. There has been plenty of speculation this summer over his future with the Red Devils seemingly keen to offload the high-earning star. Who is Marcus Rashford?

Marcus Rashford is a striker who currently plays for Manchester United and was a product of their youth system. He joined the club at the age of seven and broke through into the senior team at the age of 18, scoring twice on his debut in the UEFA Europa League. He also found the net on his Premier League debut just days later.

The forward, who wears the number nine, has featured 287 times for Manchester United, scoring 87 goals and been given 62 caps for England.

Aside from his goalscoring exploits, Rashford has also made headlines for his political activism, which saw him campaign for free school meals during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also campaigned across racism and homelessness and uses his social media platforms to raise awareness of the various charities that he supports.

Why is Marcus Rashford Moving?

Despite his record in a Manchester United shirt, Rashford has not impressed current boss Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach has publicly criticised the striker’s application in training, suggesting that he would rather field the 63-year old goalkeeping coach ahead of the England international.

As a consequence, he barely featured in the first months of Amorim’s tenure and was subsequently shipped out on loan to Aston Villa where he netted twice.

Although many former professionals have leapt to the defence of the frozen-out star, it appears as though there is no way back for Rashford.

Potential Destinations

With Rashford reportedly unwilling to take a cut to his £325,000-per-week wage demands, it does limit the number of potentialy suitors. United may have to resort to yet another loan move, an agreement in which the Red Devils are still forced to pay a portion of his wages.

A return to Aston Villa could be on the cards, however, this would be another temporary switch. Nevertheless, the club are looking to cut back on expensive deals this summer with the Midlands outfit having failed to qualify for the Champions League. They spent large amounts on Rashford and Marco Asensio last season and need to satisy for the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules this time around.

PSG have twice failed to lure Rashford to the Parc des Princes previously, however, the Parisiens could be one of the few sides who are willing to pay the striker’s wages. United are believed to want around £50-70m for his services and the Ligue 1 champions have plenty of cash to spend.

Barcelona is believed to be Rashford’s preferred destination, but the Blaugrana are reportedly unwilling to pay his extortionate transfer fee. The La Liga side need to save money this summer and are making plans to cut the wage bill, rather than add to it. Nevertheless, a loan deal is something which may satisfy all parties.

Other potential destinatins include Serie A duo Juventus and AC Milan, whilst a move to Saudi Arabia isn’t completely out of the question.
