Niall O’Ceallachain’s side took a healthy lead into the interval courtesy of some slick and efficient play. Ciaran Stacey and AJ Murphy starred in attack and were the catalyst for Na Fianna’s victory. It was a first-ever triumph for the Dublin outfit who eased to a nine-point victory. O’Ceallachain has targetted a fast start as a way to un-nerve their opponents and his tactics paid dividends.

Hurler of the Year
Hurler of the Year is awarded to the player who is voted as the best in the country. It rewards excellent in all departments and was first awarded in 1995. Kilkenny, Limerick and Clare players have tended to dominate in recent years with Limerick being the only county to have had all three nominees in the same year.
The first recipient of the award was Brian Lohan, representing County Clare, followed by Martin Storey, who was successful in 1996.
Only two players, Henry Shefflin (3) and Cian Lynch (2) has won the award more than once with the latter triumphing in both 2018 and 2021. Two players, T. J Reid and Seamus Callanan have won the award once, but finishing runner-up in three separate occasions.
Shane O’Donnell was the most recent winner of the award in recognition of leading County Clare to the All-Ireland title.
2025-26 Hurler of the Year
Two-time winner Cian Lynch is in pole position to secure a third Hurler of the Year title, which would bring him level with Henry Shefflin. He’s delivered many commanding performances in the Munster Hurling Championship and was man of the match in his side’s victory over Deise and helped to book his team’s spot in the seventh consecutive Munster Final.
Kyle Hayes is yet to secure the award, however, his record speaks for itself. He has finished as runner-up on three occasions, including in each of the last two seasons. He’s won five all-stars, six Munster titles and three Hurling League titles, although his activities away from the pitch haven’t neccessarily endeared him to the fans.
Darragh Fitzgibbons is another contender and the former Young Hurler of the Year nominee has been regularly included in the 2025 Hurling Team of the Year. He enjoyed a stellar 2024 season and his game seems to be improving on a weekly basis.
