NFL 2025-26: Who Will Win the Regular Season MVP?

MVP is an annual award given to the Most Valuable Player across the regular NFL season. The recipient will be picked out by a panel of 50 sportswriters, broadcasters and media members and is given to the player who has made the biggest impact for their franchise during the regular season. It is one of the most prestigious awards in the sport and is sought after by every player who steps foot onto the field.

The award has been given out each year since 1954 and has tended to be dominated by offensive players with quarterbacks tending to be favoured. Only two defensive players have picked up the award including linebacker Lawrence Taylor in 1986. There are six franchises which have yet to produce an MVP winner including the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Bucaneers and the Houston Texans.

The Green Bay Packers have been responsible for the most MVP winners and the most unique winners of the award with five different players having picked up this prestigious honour.

Although the MVP curse has supposedly caused many winners to lose the Superbowl, there have been eleven players who have received this award and been successful in the showpiece event. Patrick Mahomes was the latest example in 2022, following in the footsteps of Kurt Warner, Brett Favre and Terrell Davis.

Previous Winners

The Bills’ Josh Allen was awarded MVP for the first time at the end of the 2024-25 NFL regular season, finishing ahead of 2023 winner Lamar Jackson. He had previously been runner-up twice, but he enjoyed a memorable campaign registering 28 touchdown passes and 12 rushing touchdowns during the course of the regular campaign.

Lamar Jackson was successful in both 2019 and 2023 with Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers have also doubled up in the last decade. Peyton Manning has received the MVP award on the most occasions, picking up the accolade on five separate occasions for two different franchises. He remains the only player to have picked up the award whilst representing two different NFL teams and his last success came in 2013 whilst playing for the Denver Broncos. The aforementioned Aaron Rodgers has been successful on four occasions and there are four players, including Tom Brady and Jim Brown, who have triumphed on three seperate occasions.

2025-26 MVP Predictions and Betting

Unsurprisingly, Lamar Jackson is the early favourite to add to his collection of MVP awards. The two-time winner was narrowly pipped by Josh Allen last season and after posting his best season so far, he’s likely to put forward a strong case this season.

The Ravens star threw for 4,172 yards with 41 touchdowns, posted standout numbers for a quarterback. He also led the league in passer rating and if he can continue his strong showing, he’s unlikely to lose out for a second consecutive campaign.

Naturally, Josh Allen is back amongst the contenders for next season. He will be aiming to become just the third consecutive winner this century and faces stiff competition. With the Bills likely to continue winning games, Allen is likely to put himself firmly in the mix.

Patrick Mahomes is also looking to add to his tally and although he finished the season with a below average number of passing yards, he remains a force to be reckoned with. The two-time winner was an integral part of the Chief’s stunning start to the season and is likely to be in the MVP conversation if he can stay fit.

Joe Burrow is another player who is a legitimate contender for the 2025-26 MVP. He was let down by his defense last season after he produced a career-best 70.6% completion rate on his passes. With 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, he put in some impressive numbers last season and is only likely to improve on those figures.

If you believe Lamar Jackson will be the 2025-26 NFL MVP, you could win $600 by betting $100 if it happens.
