CFL 2025: Who will be the Most Outstanding Player This Season?
The 2025 CFL season is set to get underway at the beginning of June and will be the 71st season of modern professional Canadian football. The regular campaign will conclude at the end of October with the Grey Cup scheduled for mid-November. This will bring the curtain down on another fascinating five months of football. There will be no neutral Touchdown Series games taking place this season and the schedule has been amended to incorporate Sunday evening games between weeks four and eight before reverting to its traditional Saturday afternoon slot. The Stampede Bowl will make its debut this season on July 3rd, taking place on the eve of the historic Calgary Stampede.

2024 Most Outstanding Player
Brady Oliviera was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player for 2024 at the award ceremony in Vancouver. He is one of only four players to win both the Most Outstanding Player award and Most Outstanding Canadian. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back topped the charts for running yards (1,353) for the second consecutive season and has topped the 1,000 mark in three consecutive campaigns. He helped to guide his side to the West Division title for the fourth consecutive season, despite failing to win a game for the first five weeks.
He also led the league in yards for scrimmage for the second consecutive season and become the ninth Blue Bombers player to receive the award.

Previous Winners
Brady Oliveira’s success was preceded by Chad Kelly’s victory in 2023. Zach Collaros went back-to-back in 2021 and 2022 for the Blue Bombers after leading the league for touchdowns (37) and completed nearly 70% of his passes. Prior to the COVID pandemic, winners of the MOP award included Brandon Banks (2019), Bo Levi Mitchell (2016 and 2018) and Mike Reilly (2017). Prior to Oliveira’s triumph, the last RB to receive this honour was Jon Cornish of the Stampeders of the Calgary Stampeders.
2025 Most Outstanding Player Contenders
Chad Kelly leads the way and is priced up as the favourite to receive the MOP this season. The QB has already received the award back in 2023 ending the campaign with a 15-1 win-loss record, throwing 4,123 yards for 23 touchdowns. He was suspended for the first nine regular season contests in 2024 and he is likely to benefit from playing a full season for the Toronto Argonauts. He was named as top performer week 20 last season and should return to spraying passes around liberally this season. He suffered an injury in the third quarter of the East Division Finals in November, however, he should be ready to go for the start of the new season in mid-summer.
Nathan Rourke is also expected to enjoy a successful season having finalized an agreement to restructure his contract with the BC Lions. He won the Most Outstanding Canadian Award back in 2022 and made 20 starts last season. He set a record for completion percentage (78.7%) during that season. He spent time in the NFL with the Jaguars, Patriots, Giants and Falcons before announcing his return to the Lions at the end of 2024.
Davis Alexander is another contender for the MOP award this season. The QB has reached an agreement to remain with the Alouettes until 2027 and at just 26-years-old, he has room to grow into his role in Montreal. He helped his side secure the Eastern Division title in 2024 and completed 105 of his 151 passes. He rushed for 188 yards and had four touchdowns on 30 carries.
Dru Brown is another potential winner with the betting market suggesting that the Ottawa Redblacks QB has a similar chance of securing the MOP to last season’s winner Brady Oliveira. Brown has recently signed a one-year deal with his side after leading the Redblacks to their first play-off appearance since 2018. He started 15 games for 3,959 yards.
